The Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves are currently in discussions on a potential trade that involves Ricky Rubio and Reggie Jackson. The Wolves and Pistons are two of the most underwhelming teams in the league this season, with the former ranking 12th in the ultra-competitive Western Conference. The Pistons, on the other hand, are only a game behind the Chicago Bulls for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference, but have not been performing as well as fans had hoped.

Rubio is averaging 7.7 points, 7.9 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per contest this season, and has two years remaining on his current contract worth $29.2 million. Jackson is averaging 16.7 points, 5.3 assists, and 3.99 rebounds per game for the Pistons and is in the second year of his five year deal worth $80 million. The NBA trade deadline is on February 23.

According to ESPN, the Timberwolves have been open to the idea of shipping Rubio for a while now and are even willing to include forward Shabaz Muhammad in the deal involving the Spaniard. There is some pretty good logic behind the proposed deal that could stand to benefit both teams. While Rubio has been playing well in the last couple of weeks, his playmaking responsibilities have been dwindling under head coach Tom Thibodeau.

In last year's draft, the Timberwolves selected Kris Dunn from Providence College, a player who is seen as Rubio's potential replacement at the point guard spot. Jackson, despite averaging some solid numbers for Detroit, has been struggling to keep his teammates happy after returning from an injury that sidelined him until early December.

A report from CBS Sports finds the deal to be non-beneficial to either team as Jackson won't get better defensively despite his attack-first mentality. Detroit, on the other hand, would be able to land a better floor general and defender, but Rubio's inconsistent shooting could prevent them from spreading the floor more. While nothing is set in stone as of yet, this could prove to be one of the more interesting deals if it does transpire.
