Starting from today players can now revisit the dungeons of the very first "Diablo" game released in 1996. As part of its celebration of Diablo's 20-year anniversary, players can now play "The Darkening of Tristram", which is a recreation of the dungeons found in the original Diablo game in "Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls."

The event was first announced in last year's Blizzcon and sends players back in time to battle the classic versions of Diablo and his other minions such as The Butcher. Players will also have the chance to earn new achievements, loots, and rewards as part of the Darkening of Tristram event. The dungeon features 16 levels in total and can only be accessed through a special portal which will become available once players are able to track down a group of cultists in the game's Adventure Mode.

To make players feel like they were really going back in time, Blizzard added a neat little feature that they've dubbed "Retro Vision", which is basically a graphics filter that gives the game a more pixelated look, and is only available to play for the month of January.

The anniversary event is now available for Windows PC, Mac, Xbox One, and Playstation 4. The event update comes alongside patch 2.4.3, which brings with it plenty of gameplay tweaks and improvements, and some new items.

Some of the new items added along with patch 2.4.3 include the seventh piece of the Crusader's Armor of Akkhan set. Some changes have also been made to existing items in the game, and class-specific Legendary items have also been given new Legendary powers. Players who already own these items won't be able to enjoy the new changes unless they manage to track down some new ones.

A complete list of all the changes found in the latest patch can be read on Blizzard's official website. As reported by Gamespot, many of Blizzard's other games are also commemorating the 20th anniversary of "Diablo" in their own way.
