"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" is the sixth and final installment in the "Resident Evil" movie series, which was written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. The movie series was slightly based on the Capcom video game series "Resident Evil", and is currently ranked 1 in Japan.

According to Anime News Network, the last installment of "Resident Evil" was ranked 1 at the Japanese weekend box office in its second week. The film was first released on the 23rd of December 2016 in Japan, and has earned 978million yen approximately 8.35million USD from 644,000 sold tickets within its first three days. The film will also be released in the United States on the 27th of January 2017. On the other hand, Makoto Shinkai's "your name" anime film ascended from rank 7 to rank 3 for its 19th weekend in Japan. The film "your name" has earned a 20,897,904,500 yen which is approximately 178million USD from 16,079,937 sold tickets in Japan.

The Japanese live action film "Eiga Yo-kai Watch: Sora Tobu Kujira to Double no Sekai no Daibōken da Nyan!" descended from rank 5 to rank 2 during its third weekend. During its opening weekend, the film has earned 608,033,100 yen approximately 5.189million USD. So far these are the top competitors for the last installment of the "Resident Evil" series in the box office of Japan, and most of them are actually taking making some good sales.

According to Collider, they described the film to be continuing after the events in "Resident Evil: Retribution." During the last scene in "Resident Evil: Retribution," Alice (Milla Jovovich) confronted Albert Wesker (Shawn Roberts) but she was then convinced that they are the last remaining survivors. Before the last scene has ended she was regrouped with Albert Wesker, Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillary), Leon Kennedy (Johann Urb) and Ada Wong (Bingbing Li).

"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" might stay ranked 1 for quite a while in Japan, which is not a big surprise for most fans of the "Resident Evil" film series.
