"Wayward Pines'" future is hazy since Fox has neither denied nor confirmed if the show will indeed be cancelled after season 3.  Season 2 has been aired months ago, and the network isn't showing any particular interest in bringing the series back.

"Wayward Pines" is created by known supernatural director, M. Night Shyamalan, TV.com said.  It's a story about an idyllic town which holds a secret.  The plot is intriguing, and the series did gain loyal followers, but according to some reports, ratings were low for the second season and Fox thinks the show is not worth renewing.

The plot of the series follows the life in a small Idaho town, Wayward Pines. Town locals are yet to fully discover the secrets of their mysterious town. The first season was aired in 2015 and the series did become the number 1 scripted show of the summer.

For the second season, alien species called the abbies were introduced, and it turned out that they were a threat to mankind, especially to the town.  The season wasn't received very well, but the finale gathered up to 3.5 million viewers.

TVLine reported that the series have a "really compelling" plan for Season 3, but then again, no word about the renewal yet. Fox Television Group co-chairman/CEO Dana Walden did say that there would definitely be a Season 3, but the network's silence makes fans confused.

Season 2 averaged 2.4 million viewers compared to the previous season which had 3.8 million.  Some say that the series needs to restore its viewership to about 3.5 million to secure a slot for a third installment.

Meanwhile, there is a possibility that there will be a crossover with another series, "Stranger Things." The crossover would sound plausible, fans of both series agree. Both shows are set in small, mysterious towns, so a crossover would be exciting.
