History Channel's "Vikings" season 4 episode 11's ending shocked many fans. In the episode titled "In the Uncertain Hour Before the Morning", Queen Aslaug was shot in the back by Ragnar's first love, Lagertha.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Lagertha, whom Aslaug called a usurper, arrived in the city where Queen Aslaug ruled. The two came face-to-face in the town square and Aslaug told Lagertha that she dreamed Ragnar is dead, but Lagertha refused to believe it. Aslaug then said she denounces everything for as long as she is given safe passage, and she will not seek revenge. Just as she walks away, though, Lagertha shot her arrow, killing Aslaug.

Many were surprised with the series' twist, but Australian actress, Alyssa Sutherland, who plays Aslaug, said she is actually not shocked about her character's death, although she admitted she didn't know how she was going to be killed. Sutherland said that when you sign onto a show, you don't really know how the storylines would go, or how long the show will keep you. She knew about her character's death since 2015.

An hour before the show aired, the 34-year-old actress posted a photo of her character jumping with the set's mountainous view as a backdrop. She said she was even thrilled when she read that scene about her death, Sutherland told ET Online. Sutherland said that she immediately sent an email to the show's creator and writer, Michael Hirst after she read the script.

There was one other person who knew that Aslaug will get killed during season 4's episode 11 - Maude Hirst. Hirst, who plays Helga, is a close friend of Sutherland's, and as a matter of fact, they would live together whenever the latter is in Ireland.

Now that Aslaug is dead, Lagertha is established as the queen. Many fans are excited to know what the new episodes will be like and if Ragnar will return to sit beside his true love. "Vikings" airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on History Channel.
