A survey and a study were conducted to determine the best airport to travel within the United States. The survey was solely dependent on flight cancellation rate, flight delay rate, and average delay time. Another airport ranking was also released based on personal experiences of travelers.

The survey conducted by AOL Finance was on airports that had a minimum total range of 4,000 domestic flights. The survey was based on the flights from 2012 to 2015 in the month of December only. From the subject of the study the researchers and surveyors came up to the delimitation of 78 different airports.

The data from the survey was collected and calculated through averaging and then assigning 100 scores to the airport with the highest ranking while 0 for the lowest. The top airports are as follows, chronologically arranged.

San Francisco International Airport (100), Newark Liberty International Airport (94.8) , Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport/ Adams Field (92.8), Chicago O'Hare International Airport (87.3), Palm Springs International Airport (85.1), Will Rogers World Airport (83.7), Cincinnati/ Northern Kentucky International Airport (83.1), General Mitchell International Airport (82.6), LaGuardia Airport (80.7), and Dallas / Fort Worth International Airport (79.6).

The airports above were ranked according to three criterion; flight cancellation rate, flight delay rate, and average delay time. All of the information and data came from the U.S Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

On the other hand, Forbes reported another airport ranking released by J.D Power 2016 North America Airport Satisfaction Study. The ranking was based on personal flying experiences of almost 40,000 passengers and travelers. The subject was mostly in North America only.

The ranking relayed the improvement in passenger's feedback from 2015 to 2016 in all amenities and areas examined including terminal facilities, airport accessibility, security check, baggage claim, baggage check, food, beverage and retail shopping. The top airports are as follows, chronologically arranged.

Large Airport Ranking: Portland (Ore) International Airport (786), Tampa International Airport (775), Las Vegas McCarran Airport (759), Orlando International Airport (751), Miami International Airport (750),San Diego International Airport (748), Salt Lake City International Airport (747) and Toronto Pearson Airport (745).

Medium Airport Ranking: Indianapolis International Airport (794), Buffalo Niagara International Airport (791), Fort Myers /Southwest Florida International Airport (790), Jacksonville International Airport (789), Cincinnati/ Northern International Airport (783), and Ontario International Airport (781).
