A new Batman movie is officially happening and we’ve got the details! Ben Affleck is set to go full Bruce Wayne and take over the Batman universe. Last summer rumors swirled that Batman v Superman’s newest Dark Knight would potentially take the Batman franchise for a joy ride and it now appears that the Argo director will have a chance to make his Citizen Wayne after all. Warner Brothers Chief Exec Kevin Tsujihara confirmed Tuesday at the studio’s CinemaCon presentation that Ben Affleck will indeed star and direct his own Batman feature film. Tsujihara casually dropped this information as he listed off each of the ten confirmed DC films and their directors that WB has committed to within the next five years. This was later backed up by an official announcement from the studio. Curiously, Tsujihara’s comments as well as the press release failed to mention Affleck’s writing involvement on the project. Back in July when Batfleck directing rumors first began, Affleck was said to be working with famed comic writer and DC Entertainment’s Chief Creative Exec Geoff Johns on a solo Batman adventure. Much more recently, during the Batman v Superman press tour, Affleck mentioned to DC’s All Access that he was excited about a project he was currently writing with Johns and his own agent, Patrick Whitesell, recently stated that Affleck had already written a script for a Batman movie he called “a really cool idea”. We’ll have to wait and see if Affleck ends up getting writing credit on the film, but news of his directing the solo film shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise considering his Batman portrayal garnered the majority of praise from the otherwise much-maligned Dawn of Justice. Where the film takes place in the timeline and what villains and/or other heroes it might include remains a mystery though. Thanks to the latest Suicide Squad, we can assume Batman’s history will be at least somewhat explored which could be enough to skip any kind of origin story and just continue the storyline begun in Batman v Superman and set to continue in next year’s Justice League. As always, the online community has been quick to offer up their suggestions for what the movie’s plot will feature, with folks mainly focusing on what villains would make for good Batfleck potential. A name often thrown around is “Riddler” as well as “Red Hood”. Comic book storylines mentioned on several comment boards have also included Hush, The Long Halloween, and The Court of Owls. All of these would be great and all point to one common theme: fans want to see the “world’s greatest detective” do some actual detective work and we have to agree that sounds right up Affleck’s ally. You can be sure you’ll hear about any new Batman movie updates right here, but until then, what do you think of Ben Affleck directing a new Batman movie and what villain or story would you like to see? Share your thoughts in the comments and then click here to find out what we’d like see happen in the movie. I’m Miriam Isa, thanks for watching and we’ll see you soon with more movie news! The upcoming DC Comics-based film, "The Batman", starring and directed by Ben Affleck, has become an anticipated superhero film for the coming years for Batman fans ever since they saw Affleck's superb performance as the Dark Knight himself in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice film, which was released this year.
According to Movie Pilot, the release date of the latest Batman movie is due on October 2018. One of the casts of Affleck's version of the movie, Joe Manganiello, who will be playing the role of Deathstroke, skilled assassin and one of Batman's notorious enemies, praised Affleck on his skills not only as an actor, but also as a director.
"Ben's a great director, man. I mean the last movie that man directed won best picture. He's got an Oscar for writing. Like, this is all the components to go down as a... everything is lined up for a really really really great movie. Not only a superhero movie but just a great great movie" said Manganiello, according to lazygamer.net. Ben Affleck is also known to be the director of two successful films, "The Town" and "Argo", which won three Academy Awards.
Manganiello also hinted something about the Caped Crusader's new film. He mentioned that the fans will going to love Affleck's unique take on the upcoming film. "When I met Ben we sat down and we talked about, you know, the role. We talked about the movie. His take is a fresh take but I think the audience is going to be surprised.
Because it's a road that no one's really gone down that's completely integral to, you know, who Batman is. And I think it's gonna be refreshing but at the same time completely familiar. But it's going to take this franchise in a direction that I think a lot of people are going to be really happy about," said Manganiello. "It's going to be gritty and action packed and cerebral and all of those elements that people love about Batman."
