South Korea has won the first ever Overwatch World Cup in a dominant fashion. The tournament was held live in Anaheim, California during Blizzcon 2016. The inaugural Overwatch World Cup ended with South Korea proclaimed as champions. South Korea had become a champion of yet another e-sports.

The South Koreans won the World Cup in convincing fashion. They dissected the field during the tournament and blew past any and all challengers. Their starting six worked perfectly together in harmony to utterly destroy the competition.

16 countries battled for medals not prize pools in the inaugural Overwatch World Cup. Teams fought only for honor and country as well as a modest participation bonus. Television sports network ESPN, sports news site Yahoo Sports, tabloid newspaper The Daily Express, digital media website Mashable, and gaming news websites Kotaku and WWG, all reported on the event.

Some nations such as Finland, Sweden, and the US, entered teams which were built from a good core of professional players. They would compete with teams from South Korea, China, and other countries. Teams were chosen through community-sourced national team rosters. Many countries did not send professional players. They sent instead popular streamers or personalities.

Team South Korea experienced no issues throughout the tournament, going undefeated, 14-0. They won every single map during the group and bracket stages. The whole tournament, no team won a point against South Korea. During the course of the competition, teams were ousted until only Russia and South Korea remained. Russia faced the daunting task of defeating South Korea. South Korea had dominated the tournament all the way to the finals. South Korea was the only team among 4 groups that did not drop any game in the group stage.

They dominated the playoffs beating the USA 2-0 and Sweden stood little chance when South Korea met the all-professsional Swedish team. Its strategy and cohesion were excellent as they easily took apart the talented Swedes using teamwork and ultimates. They defeated Finland, the US, Sweden, and finally Russia without really being challenged.
