Lenovo's Yoga Book Review: A Keyless Laptop With A “Real Pen”, More Details And Features

Lenovo has unveiled its 2-in-1, the Yoga Book, which is respectively available in Android Marshmallow and Windows 10 Home versions. The Yoga Book runs on a quad-core Intel Atom x5-Z8550. Other features include its 4 GB RAM, 64GB of ROM, and a microSD card capable of up to 128GB capacity.

According to Mr. Eric Smith, a senior analyst at Strategy Analytics, he said that "The Atom processor was a cost-saving measure, because Lenovo hasn't yet shown that its customers will shell out top dollar for a device with a sixth- or seventh-generation Intel processor."

"That choice was not the best move performance-wise; but from the standpoint of testing the market ... very well done," he told TechNewsWorld. The Book sports an 8-MP autofocus rear camera and a 2-MP fixed-focus front camera. The Windows version runs Any Pen technology. The Windows device comes with a preloaded Microsoft Office Mobile comprising of Excel, Powerpoint, Word and OneNote, according to the TechNewsWorld.

Meanwhile, the Android version runs EMR Pen and comes with Lenovo's Note Saver, Collection, SHAREit and SYNCit, as well as Google apps like Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, to name a few, as further described by TechNewsWorld. There have been various reactions from tech experts who had already used the notebook. Tech News World reports says that Lauren Goode, The Verge's senior editor, said that the Yoga Book seems to be more like a mobile device than a heavy-duty computing machine. Meanwhile, Strategy Analytics' Smith mentioned that the Yoga Book is said to compete with middle-of-the-road Microsoft Surface clones from Asus, Acer, HP and Huawei," said Strategy Analytics' Smith.

Moreover, Lenovo's keyless "Halo keyboard" makes the physical keyboard a thing of the past. Also, the stylus, called as "Real Pen," looks like a proper pen, but within comes an impressive pressure-sensing tech. The Yoga Book demonstrates its cards through its pen cap that can be used to swap the stylus head for an ink refill, according to The Inquirer.

The Inquirer also stated that Yoga Book is made from a heady mixture of magnesium alloy and glass. The Windows model is available only in Carbon Black, but the Android variant comes in Gunmetal Grey and Champagne Gold as well. The Android version costs US$500 and the Windows version goes for $550.
