Nintendo Update: Japanese Software Company NOT Terminating The Wii U

After rumors circulated throughout the Internet that Nintendo was ready to halt the production of its lackluster-selling game console, the Wii U, the game company issued a response after a few days. Nintendo finally answered the rumors by flatly denying that the company was not cancelling the manufacture of the Wii U.

Forbes and gaming news site Kotaku reported that a Nintendo spokesperson discussed the status of the company's ageing game console with the Japanese site IT Media. The spokesperson told the Japanese site that production of the Wii U is continuing and there are no changes planned. The spokesperson was not aware of the rumors but clearly stated that cancelling Wii U production was not true. The spokesperson went on to remark that production for the game console is scheduled to continue even though the Wii U's successor, the Nintendo Switch, has been announced. IT Media also noted that there are still upcoming Wii U games that are planned for release.

Forbes revealed that it had asked Nintendo to confirm the statement of its spokesperson. The game company did not provide an answer that would have clarified the situation. Nintendo told Forbes that it had nothing to announce regarding the production status of the Wii U. The company only mentioned that it would ship 800,000 Wii U consoles for the fiscal year and that would result in lower inventory for the game console in retail shops, making it harder to find the Wii U in stock to purchase.

The gaming news site Eurogamer had previously released an article that Nintendo reportedly was going to end production of the Wii U the same week the article was published. According to Eurogamer, multiple sources confirmed the information. The article stated that the Japanese production line would shut down permanently the same week the article was published. This transpired due to the final deadline for orders ending without any significant new orders. This happened the day before the article was published. Nintendo declined to coment to Eurogamer for the article.
