Sadiq Khan, the new mayor of London, announces on his Twitter account @MayorofLondon good news for London travelers.

"I'm introducing a one hour 'Hopper' bus fare from September. I'm committed to making travel more affordable for all Londoners." He says.

In September, London buses will have a 60-minute "hopper" fare to allow commuters to take one free additional bus ride if they get on the bus within an hour after the first rider. The hopper fare will be automatically honored in the commuter's Oyster card or other contactless payments.

It is noted that in London, commuters do not pay bus fare using cash. The options are only Oyster, Travelcard, Visitor Oyster and contactless payment.

This act is in response to his promise during the election campaign to make steps to lessen fare expenses. There will be more initiatives to be rolled out until the end of 2018. As of now, his administration is working on the upgrading of the system, which will start next year.

The announcement is met with positive reactions.

User @atariq7 suggests, "Could you make that for the whole day please. You the best."

User @lorihaleyfox comments, "Thank you. We have this in NYC and it really makes a difference to travel expenses."

Some want the promo to affect the whole country. User @BarbaraDaniels6 says, "Well done. It should be affordable all over the country. It is expensive in rural areas."

According to Evening Standard, people are now planning to race across London come September to know how far they can travel with Khan's one-hour bus ticket promo.

This idea was picked up after Jonathan McShane tweeted about it on May 10. "There should be an annual competition to see who can get furthest on a Sadiq one hour bus ticket." He says. It has since been talked about online.
