In a recent article on the Huffington Post, James Weis, owner of the travel company Eyes on Africa, helps share what you need to know about taking a trip to the continent that he describes as "majestic and mysterious…a land of beauty and wonder." Here are some quick tips to help you get the most out of your African safari adventure. There are even more in the original article.

Plan your trip early
Weis recommends planning your trip several months in advance, at least. The busy season for safaris goes from July through October, so if your vacation falls during that time, consider starting to book things even farther in advance.

Be cautious, but not overly concerned
The media reports the continent of Africa as though it were a single country, Weis said. While the news may portray Africa as a dangerous land of constant war, Weis disagrees, saying, "there are in fact areas that are worse off in more developed countries than in the 'dangerous African countries." Watch your belongings when walking in crowded areas, just as you would anywhere else, and don't walk in the cities at night -- especially if you don't know your way around. Crime occurring in a safari campsite is virtually unheard of, and using the hotel safe to store your variables in more populated settings should keep everything safe.

Requirements
In terms of paperwork, it's best to contact the consulate of the specific country (or countries) that you plan to travel to so that you're aware of what's required in terms of visas and other documentation. The same is true of necessary medical precautions. In general, malaria pills are recommended. Depending on where you're headed, you might also need protection against yellow fever.

Food
Weis promises that you'll never go hungry and that the British and European cuisine are impressive. Just as exciting is the setting. Meals can take place under a night sky, a thatched roof or other exotic settings.
