It has been reported that a family of 11 has been stopped, 'taken aside' at the airport, and told they were not permitted to aboard the plane.

Stella Creasy, an opposition MP in the British parliament, raised the issue after learning that the United States reportedly barred a British Muslim family from flying to Disneyland for their $22,000 holiday.

According to Mohammad Tariq Mahmood, Pakistani-born gym owner, he was supposed to be travelling with his brother and nine children when they were forced to hand back duty free items and were told their ESTA (a visa waiver granting entry to the US) was not valid.

'I asked why we weren't allowed to board. I had to be persistent. He wouldn't tell me why and said he didn't know at first,' he told the Mail Online. 'He finally said they had had a call from Washington DC from homeland security and that I wasn't allowed to board.' No further details were provided.

'I'd never experienced anything like that before. I live in a multicultural area and I have my own gym so I spend a lot of time with different people from all kinds of different cultures,' Mahmood said.

Meanwhile, the office of Prime Minister David Cameron is investigating the claims. Cameron, through The Guardian, said 'Online and offline discussions reverberate with the growing fear that UK Muslims are being "trumped" - that widespread condemnation of Donald Trump's call for no Muslim to be allowed into America contrasts with what is going on in practice.'

At least eight days after the incident, the family has yet to receive more information and explanation as to why they were blocked from flying. 'Faced with no holiday, no explanation and no compensation, it is little wonder that festive cheer is in short supply and anger is growing,' Ms Creasy said.

This is not the first time this has happened to Muslims travelling abroad, specifically to the USA. 'It makes us feel like criminals, even though we have done nothing wrong at all,' a Muslim couple who were blocked several times despite being told there was nothing amiss with their travel documents or background checks said.

The US embassy in London is yet to comment on the issue.
