With evenings submerged, in igloos, and even in the belly of a beagle, and including family-accommodating, sentimental and just plain bizarre choices (and two UK spots), the list guarantees one year from now's birthdays, hens, stags and whatever else is well and genuinely secured. Go forward and rest in the unusual in 2016.

Dog Bark Park Inn, Idaho, USA

Dog Bark Park Inn is the brainchild of two creative puppy beaus, and is an enormous structure. Things inside are puppy themed as well, with pooch embellished pads and dog molded rolls. The proprietors have some expertise in 'chainsaw art', which isn't as frightening as it sounds. They create wooden figures of different breeds, available in the shop nearby. Dependable pets, with well-behaved owners are allowed.

Dino Snores at the Natural History Museum, London, UK

London's Natural History Museum offers the opportunity to spend the night with the historical centre's well known bony dinosaurs. The children's sleepover incorporates a light lit trail of the Dinosaurs display and a live science show, while the adult version incorporates a full dinner, science shows, live music, bars, edible insect tasting, and a throughout the night monster movie marathon.

Nanuku Levu, Fiji

With its old coconut palms and blindingly white sand, it's a fantasy spring up. You won't be pestered by the neighbours: there are 15 miles of translucent, light blue South Pacific in the middle of you and the closest civilization. The island has one little wooden beach hut and a shoreline house, and your only guests are liable to be turtles and huge seabirds.

A House for Essex, UK

Opened in 2015, the gold-roofed A House for Essex looks as if a bit of Russian building design from the Red Square crossed with a gingerbread house has been transplanted toward the north Essex coast. The house has been co-planned by Essex-raised artist Grayson Perry and the design practice FAT to bring out a wayside church or folly. Perry has designed the inside as though it had a place with an every woman he's called Julie. Staying here is to be immersed in a fanciful life, and turn into a piece of a gem.

Propeller Island, Berlin, Germany

Propeller Island is the pseudonym by German audio-visual artist Lars Stroschen, and one of his most famous activities is the Propeller Island City Lodge. Rest in a box, in the 'upside-down' room that messes with your perception, or have a rest in a suspended bed. Plump for a room with electric wallpaper, a cushioned cell, or crank down an enlightened boundary to split a double bed into two. These options are only the start, so take your pick for one of the more abnormal evenings of your life.
