From bullied teen to high school superstar, Melissa Benoist is now the great Kal-El's cousin - "Supergirl." Glee fans the world over rejoiced as CBS revealed last January that they have officially signed Melissa for the role of Kara Danvers or Kara Zor-El in their newest upcoming series. Everyone loved her all the more in her suit, a masterpiece by Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood.

Nevertheless, when it comes down to it, Melissa's life always seemed to lead her into the path of being the brash but valiant daughter of Krypton. Below are a few reasons why.

She Works with Giants

Just as Kara Zor-El quickly became a famed member of the Justice League, Melissa Benoist is no stranger to working with the greats. Many of her fans might recognize her primarily as Glee's Marley Rose, but many don't know that she has also starred in movies alongside award-winning actors and actresses like Al Pacino, Jennifer Garner, and J.K. Simmons (the latter being in last year's Whiplash, where Simmons won Best Actor in a Supporting Role in last year's Oscars).

She Loves Dogs

If Clark Kent and Kara Danvers has Krypto, Melissa Benoist and Blake Jenner, her real-life fiancé, has two dogs, whom they love dearly. Melissa regularly posts photos of their adorable pooches, and she's even hoping to add more to their growing family!

She's a Bona Fide Crime-fighter

Like "Supergirl" herself, Melissa Benoist is quite familiar with the world of crime - at least, she is, on television. Melissa has appeared in many crime shows like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Blue Bloods. She also appeared as a guest star in Homeland and The Good Wife.

If this list is any indication, it would seem that "Supergirl" is destined to be played by Melissa Benoist, or that Melissa is destined to play "Supergirl." Whichever might be the case, one thing is clear - men and women alike will be eagerly waiting for the newest story of the Maid of Might to unfold.
