Kelly Osbourne's "Fashion Police" departure was announced by E! on Friday. One of the show's most popular co-hosts, Osbourne said the reason for her departure was to "pursue other opportunities," according to CNN.

Kelly Osbourne's "Fashion Police" official departure also came a few days after publicly threatening to quit her longtime gig as a panelist on the famous E! show.

A network statement read:

"Kelly Osbourne is departing E!'s Fashion Police to pursue other opportunities, and we would like to thank her for her many contributions to the series over the past five years, during which time the show became a hit with viewers."

"Fashion Police will return as scheduled on Monday, March 30, at 9 p.m., and no decisions have been made on her replacement."

The Kelly Osbourne "Fashion Police" departure reportedly came after "Fashion Police" dealt with scrutiny over one of its hosts' comments on Monday's telecast. Giuliana Rancic stated a maligned assessment of Zendaya Coleman's Oscars look, saying the actress-singer's new dreadlocks looked like she smelled of "patchouli or weed."

According to reports, some felt the comment was racially insensitive.

Coleman later called Rancic out on social media, to which Rancic quickly made an on-air apology, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The backlash from Rancic's comment fell onto Osbourne who vented on Twitter and conveyed her displeasure over the situation.

"I DID NOT MAKE THE WEED COMENT [sic]", Osborne tweeted on Tuesday." I DOT NOT CONDONE RACISM SO AS A RSULT [sic] OF THIS IM SEREIOUSLY [sic] QUESTIONONIG [sic] STAYING ON THE SHOW!"

"Kelly Osbourne is a friend and has been a wonderful part of the Fashion Police family. I will miss her terribly and wish her the very best in all of her future endeavors. As my mother always said, the show must go on and I plan to continue in the same spirit," stated Melissa Rivers on the Kelly Osbourne "Fashion Police" departure.

The year has been a strange one for Fashion Police. After the death of founding host Joan Rivers on Sept. 4, 2014, the show only returned in January after a lengthy hiatus, reported E! Online.

The new panel included Kathy Griffin, who replaced Rivers, and Brad Goreski, replacing George Kotsiopoulos. Unlike in the past, the recent episode of "Fashion Police" on the Golden Globes has not been as big a draw. The episode reportedly didn't crack even 1 million viewers.
