UAE female air force pilot makes headlines when she led her troop that launched an airstrike against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants in Syria on Tuesday.

The Arab fighter identified as Major Mariam al-Mansouri has become the first woman to join the force and lead the team which aims to strike down the said terrorist group. Despite of being the only flower among the thorns in the said mission, Major Mansouri was able to carry out the task when they successfully launched the airstrike this week. A dozen of oil refineries have been targeted and destroyed in the ISIS-controlled territory which is also believed to be the militant group's source of financial aid.

The participation of the first UAE female air force pilot on the said mission in Syria has actually shocked other members of the mission. According to a report from the New York Times, Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba said that the American jet pilots were shocked to hear the voice of a woman when they contacted the flight for refueling. Although the 35 year-old fighter is a woman, the ambassador also emphasized that she is highly qualified for the mission.

The role of women in the society of Muslims has been very crucial. Before, women are not allowed to partake in the said aspect of the society; however, everything changed when the Emirates started to accept women. It was then that Major Mansouri decided to join the air force making her the first female UAE pilot to launch air strikes in Syria.

Several reactions were also made regarding the said news about the female UAE air force pilot who led the airstrikes in Syria. Different people in social media have mixed reactions about the news wherein there are those who praise her while naming her as the woman of the day; however, there are also those who criticized her by labeling her work as a criminal act.
