The metal band Unlocking The Truth is composed of 13-year-old guitarist Malcolm Brickhouse, 13-year-old bassist Alec Atkins and 12-year-old drummer Jarad Dawkins. Apparently, Unlocking The Truth Sony deal is not just one, but a two-album deal which the trio have signed. According to the Daily Mail, they also have the option for four more records for in the future.

What probably sets the band apart and landed the Unlocking The Truth Sony deal is not just the fact that the band is composed of middle schoolers, but that their genre of choice, which is heavy metal, is uncommon territory in their age group.

According to People, Unlocking The Truth grew steadily over the previous year as a video of them performing in Manhattan spread through YouTube. Their video gradually became viral, and since then several profiles of the group were made on Gawker and Vice.

Since Unlocking The Truth Sony deal has been signed by the group, the band has since been managed by "Welcome Back, Kotter" co-creator Alan Sacks.

According to the New York Daily News, with Unlocking The Truth Sony deal, the band has been promised $60,000 for their first album. They could also possibly get an advance of $350,000 for their second one. They are also currently working on a book deal with Penguin and a documentary.

In the band's website, Unlocking The Truth was explained to have begun by Malcolm and Jarad just asked their childhood friend Alec to play bass, even though Alec didn't know how. The two friends taught Alec how to play, and soon after, the trio went on to perform in Times Square and Washington Square Park while backed by their parents.

Unlocking The Truth Sony deal came after the band posted videos of their performances on YouTube. They started picking up followers from their videos, including Eric Clapton's Grammy-winning drummer Steve Jordan, who also helped them book gigs across the region. According to Jordan, he discovered the group while they were playing in Manhattan's Washington Square Park. Since then, he has taken an interest and active hand in their career.

According to the Daily Mail, the band has already played at the Apollo Theater, Webster Hall, during a Brooklyn Nets playoff game and at the Coachella music festival earlier this year.

In June, the band even opened for Guns N' Roses, for which they got a special thank you from the band via Twitter. They are set to open soon for Queens of the Stone Age as well.

Malcolm's mother, Annette Jackson, also happens to be the group's co-manager, reports Daily Mail. Annette said Unlocking The Truth Sony deal happened as Sony contacted them with the offer of a contract over the phone. To prove that they were serious, she and the boys were flew out to Los Angeles first.

The boys had to perform for the company first and successfully convince them that they worthy of the Unlocking The Truth Sony deal. Of course they were successful and papers have been filed in Manhattan Supreme Court since the boys were still minors and need court approval for contract signing.

If the band decides to work with Sony on their first six albums, they could earn as much as $1.7 million, the Daily News reported.

In one video from Times Square last summer, Malcolm's father can be heard saying, 'This is their biggest crowd... But they'll be playing a lot biggger.' Malcolm's father also said that they weren't looking for a singer but wanted to wait until the boys' voices broke. Their voices have since deepened and they have already been sharing singing duties whilst taking voice lessons.

In an interview with The New York Post, an excited Jarad Dawkins said, 'I'm so excited! We've made it!'

Jarad's mother Tabatha Dawkins, said, 'It's so exciting. We're jumping over the moon. What started out as play dates went to Times Square and now this. It's been one great thing after another.'

However, Tabatha reiterated that despite all the excitement over their music career, the boys should focus first on their education.

All boys are reportedly good students and will be starting different schools in the eighth grade this coming fall.

Tabatha said, 'School work comes first. If their school work is not done, they don't play.'

Unlocking The Truth Sony deal is a deal surely well-deserved by the young trio. The band is the youngest group in history to perform at Coachella. In a recorded interview, the boys talked about how they met and how their history came to be.
