Bodies found in suitcases along a road near Lake Geneva were chanced by highway workers. According to The Chicago Tribune, as the highway workers cut the grass outside Lake Geneva, Wis. this week, they suddenly encountered the bodies found in suitcases.

The workers saw the suitcases amongst tall weeds in a ditch. Not knowing the bags to be containing the bodies, the workers first just moved the suitcases to the side of the road, and continued with their toil. After about an hour or so, someone apparently decided to call the police complaining about the suitcases as they were still unclaimed and just sitting along the North Como Road, east of County Road H.

Town of Geneva Police Chief Steven Hurley said of the bodies found in suitcases, "It's certainly something that's unsettling, making a discovery like that." He added that the suitcases were opened by 10-year veteran, Officer Eric Anderson, of the department.

Hurley said of his experience on the bodies found in suitcases, "I talked to him, and he said he had to step back a minute and take a deep breath and collect his thoughts, but he handled it very professionally and continued to do his job."

In the meantime, law enforcement agencies in the area are already reviewing missing persons reports in hopes of identifying who the bodies found in suitcases belonged to. Police are also hoping that the bodies' autopsies will turn out results for the bodies' identities.

According to a police statement, residents "can rest assured that this is an isolated incident and the crime did not occur where the bodies were located."

However, Hurley did not elaborate on the bodies found in suitcases as he said, "I'm not at liberty to release information at this time, but through our investigation, I can state that." He added, "Investigators are working very diligently in identifying any leads in the case. This is an isolated event. This is a very quiet town, a close-knit town," he added. "Everybody knows everybody."
