A JetBlue flight was forced to turn around after hitting a bird upon takeoff.

JetBlue Flight 111 was taking off from Boston to head to Chicago on Tuesday when the incident occurred. There were 146 passengers on the plane when it had a bird strike, CBS reports.

One of those passengers, Margaret Barnaby, told CBS about her experience as she was trying to go home to Chicago.

"We are on the plane taking off and a couple of minutes into it you hear this noise and the plane is vibrating," Barnaby said.

"I heard a big bang. I was sitting on the right side of the plane and engine started shaking a little bit," another passenger, Trey Simmons told CBS.

The plane was just taking off at around 8 a.m. when the bird strike occurred. The pilot promptly told passengers that the flight was turning around after the strike.

"The captain came on said a bird hit the nose. It may have hit the nose. But it was clear when we landed it hit the engine. It got crushed," Barnaby said.

Crews were sent to inspect the plane to determine if it could continue but the flight was cancelled after the incident.

Some passengers on the flight took to Twitter to tell their friends what had happened.

"@JetBlue thank you pilot &co-pilot of BOS flight 111 for safe landing after engine bird strike & open communication," Alouette Alexander wrote.

"So my @JetBlue flight just hit a bird. Crazy vibrations forced us to land back at #Logan for inspection. Sketchy start to the week. #B6111," Matt Marra said.

It is not clear what type of bird hit the plane, but some passengers claim the pilot knew it was coming. The passengers were given the opportunity to take another flight from Boston to  Chicago's O'Hare Airport.
