Bradley Cooper Goes Commando to Meet President Barack Obama

Feb 23, 2014 10:27 AM EST

Bradley Cooper confessed he had to go commando to meet President Barack Obama.

Bradley Cooper made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and the American Hustle star confess owned up to going a bit nude before attending the White House State Dinner last week.

The 39-year-old actor explained during Ellen's interview, "I'm prepping for this new movie and I'm trying to gain weight fast, so I've gained about 15 pounds in four weeks and nothing fits me anymore, so I wore the tuxedo I wore to the Golden Globes. I just sort of threw it in the bag and brought it and went to Washington D.C. and then I'm getting dressed like 10 minutes before I was supposed go, and literally the pants go up to like here.". The actor had to gesture to his upper thighs as he said this. "And I just started laughing, like, 'This is hilarious, I'm going to meet the president.'"

The Oscar nominee had to go commando "because there was no room at all" Cooper added, "I did. I had to. And you're sitting there and it's a lot of getting up [to greet people]. You know what I mean? And I couldn't stand up really."

The former 'hottest man alive' said that the experience was a nightmare, but fortunately, he made it through.

Bradley Cooper, together with girlfriend Suki Waterhouse made their way to the formal event on Tuesday, February 11. The event was held in honor of visiting French President Francois Hollande.

Other famous personalities who made it to the event were Mindy Kaling, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Stephen Colbert and J.J. Abrams, as well as and most importantly, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.
