'Microsoft Surface Pro 5’ Could Be Announced During Build Developer Conference, Company Needs To Release It Following Q1 Earnings Report

Microsoft has recently released their first-quarter earnings report and it isn't a good one, particularly for its Surface lineup. This is the reason why the company needs to come out with "Surface Pro 5," which could possibly be announced during the Build developer conference in May.

According to a report from CNBC, Microsoft posted a 26 percent drop in Surface revenue for the quarter that ended on March 31. Though the Surface Book and the Surface Studio could be a possible reason for the low revenue, due to its expensive price tag, the low sales of the "Surface Pro 4" is the main reason for the revenue drop in the Surface brand.

The report said that Microsoft revealed in a conference call that they achieved "lower than expected Surface Pro unit volume." This shows that the company's most appealing laptop/tablet hybrid is now losing its appeal to consumers.

The "Surface Pro 4" was launched in October 2015, meaning the device is already a year-and-a-half old. The report said that people who are interested in the device are now going for thinner options with newer components from HP, Dell, and Samsung.

This is why Microsoft would need to come out with the "Surface Pro 5," which CIO Today reports is possible to be announced during the company's Build developer conference. The conference is scheduled for May 10 to 12 in Seattle.

The report said that the "Surface Pro 5" is expected to be powered by Intel Kaby Lake processor, Intel's new seventh generation chip. The new processor could enhance the laptop/tablet hybrid's performance as well as increase its battery life.

However, not much "dramatic" change is expected for the successor to the "Surface Pro 4." Nevertheless having the latest processor will already be a big boost to the laptop/tablet hybrid. Check out the video for more news about the "Surface Pro 5."
