Bill Nye The Science Guy, the science educator behind the popular childhood show, is dead, according to Twitter and Facebook. However, he's just one of the many victims of a social media death hoax.

Bill Nye the Science Guy is alive and well.

On Saturday, August 25, a Facebook page called "R.I.P. Billy Nye" was created, sparking a rumor that the scientist and educator was actually dead. The page currently has 195, 000 'Likes.' On Sunday, August 26, "R.I.P Bill Nye the Science Guy" became a trending topic on Twitter.

Fans instantly showed their outpoor of support as they mourned the loss.

User @JoeSantagato wrote "WAIT, WHAT! WHY IS R.I.P BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY TRENDING?! No way man. I loved Bill Nye. He was the only good part of science class." This tweet has been retweeted over 3,650 times.

User @sheatothemoon had quite a dramatic reaction, saying "IF BILL NYE REALLY DIED IM GOING TO KILL MYSELF"

While many obviously believe this "news" is true, it isn't.

Bill Nye even posted a photo of himself on Twitter Monday and tried to shoot down the rumor as he wrote "Alive & at JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) press conf."

Yet the rumors are still swirling around Twitter as people continuously question whether or not he died, or they take the time to mourn over the loss.

Put the rumors to rest.

This isn't the first time Bill Nye has been killed by social media. He was a victim twice in 2011.

Bill Nye is just one of many celebrities who have become victims of death rumors that started on social media. Bill Cosby is also another celebrity who is supposedly dead, however this isn't true either.

If you have to question whether or not a celebrity is really dead, turn to reliable news sources. If there is no news from a reliable source confirming their death, let the rumor die.
