Lady Gaga, 'Joanne' Singer Bags Role Of Donatella Versace In "American Crime Story" Season 3

Lady Gaga, the multi-Grammy winning singer is set to portray fashion designer,  Donatella Versace on the third season of "American Crime Story." The story revolves around the murder of the Donatella's brother, Gianni Versace in 1997, mentioned in a Rolling Stone article.

Gaga reunites with executive producer Ryan Murphy, who cast her in American Horror Story: Hotel (check the video below). On that role, the singer won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Limited Series, she also appears in American Horror Story: Roanoke, also cited on the magazine. The third anthology is titled, "Versace: Cunanan: American Crime Story." The show will go on production in early 2017, as Rolling Stone said, as the second season begins filming. However, Season 2 focuses on the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. "American Crime Story- The People Vs. O.J. Simpson" won nine Primetime Emmys that includes Outstanding Limited Series.

On July 1997, Gianni Versace was shot and killed outside his Miami mansion by serial killer Andrew Cunanan. Eight days later, Cunanan committed suicide with the same gun. It is a mystery why the latter targeted the famous designer. At that time Cunanan murdered at least five people in a span of three months, also cited by Rolling Stone. After Gianni Versace's death, his sister Donatella took over as the head of design of the fashion empire.

Gaga and Donatella Versace are close friends and the singer recorded a "love letter" track "Donatella" for her album "Artpop." The singer also starred on the Spring 2014 Versace ad campaign according to the magazine. The close friends also walked together on the red carpet of the 2016 Met Gala.

According to US Magazine, Ryan Murphy hinted the singer's casting during EW's PopFest in L.A. in October. When the panel moderator suggested that Lady Gaga would be the perfect Donatella," Murphy replied, "Ya think?" with a grin. The "Born This Way" singer released her fifth album, "Joanne" in October is also set to perform at the 2017 Super Bowl halftime show. Adding up to her acting resume is her role in the upcoming remake of "A Star is Born" with Bradley Cooper, stated by US Magazine.
