Polish Hikers Found Dead, Lightning Strike Suspected

Jul 28, 2012 12:51 PM EDT

Four hikers were killed on a tourist track in Poland's Pieniny mountain range.

The reason behind the death is still not confirmed but Police told the local media that lightning strike was a probable reason. The four were reported missing Wednesday evening.

The hikers were an elderly couple, along with their daughter and her boyfriend. They had all gone for a walk in the mountains on Poland's border with Slovakia. They group, all from Warsaw, were found dead early Friday.

No one knows for sure as to how and when the hikers died but lightning strikes seemed like the most convincing reason.

"We saw violent bolts of lightning around the place where they were located, which is why this option (a lightning strike) is the main one currently being considered," police officer Jacek Bobek told broadcaster TVP Info.

Investigations are however in process to find out any other leads to confirm the reason for the disappearance and finally death.

Monsoon is one time where people all across the globe go on adventure trips but safety measures should always be priority one.
