Diver Puts Shark In A Trance

Jan 22, 2016 02:52 AM EST

Did you know? Sharks predate the dinosaurs by 200 million years. The largest known species of shark, C. megalodon, might have reached a maximum length of 67 feet.

Imagine yourself deep underwater surrounded by sharks. Scary? How about touching them? No? Well, a brave Italian diver can even put them in a trance.

Riccardo Sturla Avogadri is an Italian scuba diver, who perfected the technique for putting sharks in a trance, so that he can examine them closely. In order to put them in a trance, the shark expert and marine biologist has to first get up close and personal with the carnivores, so that he can massage the shark's nose until it becomes relaxed.

This incredible technique helps our shark divers to dive deeper and examine and try to understand the predator deep into its natural habitat without fear. This technique will offer more knowledge about the said creatures. Now, we can try to dig deeper about their habits, feeding patterns and their choice of habitat.

This may be safer knowing this technique, but the divers still do precautionary measures like wearing their heavy duty chainmail underwater gear, just in case --  while diving deep under the waters of the Grand Bahama Island, in Bahamas.
