First 3D Printed Car ‘Strati’ Made By Local Motors [VIDEO]; CEO Jay Rogers Says, ‘We’re Changing The Whole Car’

First 3D printed car is known as the Strati. Local Motors is the company that has just built the world's first 3D printed car and has showcased it in a grand unveiling just last week at the International Manufacturing Technology Show or IMTS, which was held in Chicago, Illinois.

The first 3D printed car has always been Jay Rogers' vision, and Rogers is the current CEO of Local Motors. Given this, it is only safe to say that the first 3D printed car is his brainchild.

Back then, car enthusiasts could only wish they could simply walk into a car dealership, choose a certain design they want, including how many seats they want their car to have, and have a 3D printed car by the end of the day. Now, though, due to Rogers' genius mind, as well as that of the rest of his team, car lovers can do precisely that.

Rogers informed Mashable, "Telsa made the electric drive train famous. We're changing the whole car."

According to Ford Motors, majority of the vehicles today have many parts, ranging from 5,000 to 6,000 parts. Amazingly, the first 3D printed car, the Strati, only has 49 parts, already including its 3D printed body, which, of course, is its largest part. Its other parts include more traditional components, such as the windshield, seats, wheels, and the motor.

The truth is that there have been many 3D printed car models that have already existed. However, the Strati is the first 3D printed car that is actually drivable.

Surprisingly, the original design that was meant for the first 3D printed car actually did not come directly from Local Motors. Instead, the company encourages its members to share vehicle design ideas, perhaps the traits that they would want their dream 3D printed car to have. The finished products are then sold on the Internet or in various retail stores by Local Motors.
