Frontier Airlines is about the set some extra fees in place. Passengers will now have to pay more money to put carry-on bags in the overhead bin and for advance seat assignments.

In a move to transform itself into a fee-dependent airline, much like Spirit and Allegiant, Frontier is ready to put these new fees in place, the Associated Press reports. Frontier already added fees on July 1 like $1.99 for a soda or water on flights.

However to make up for the new fees, the airline says it is lowering its base fare by an average of 12 percent. These new charges apply to tickets that were purchased on or after Monday.

The fee for using an overhead bin will vary. The fee starts at $20 for frequent fliers who book online and can go up to $50 for those who fail to pay before they get to the gate. Most travelers will have to pay $25 if they check in online and $35 if they check in at the airport. Any items that fit under the seat can be brought on for free.

For those who want to specific seats, customers will have to pay and extra $3 when booking online or $8 at check-in. If a passenger doesn't pay the extra fee, the airline will assign them to a seat that is leftover.

Frontier is also following the trend of charging more for seats with more legroom or those closer to the front of the plane. For $5 to $15 extra, Frontier will allow guests to sit in a seat in the front half of the plane. The fee depends on when the seats are purchased. Seats that have an extra five to seven inches of legroom, like those in the exit row, will cost $15 to $50 extra depending on how long the flight is.  Those with connecting flights will have to pay the fee twice.

Those who buy the pricier, but fully-refundable "Classic Plus" fares, can get extra legroom for free, plus one checked bag and a free carry-on. Those who are elite members of the airline's frequent flier program will also receive similar benefits.

Frontier has been struggling and underwent some changed lately. They were purchased by Indigo Partners LLC in December. The company has helped many airlines that were borderlinign bankruptcy by helping them change their business model. The company also helped Spirit Airlines.
