Ah, Paris. The city of multicolored macarons, fine wine and exquisite fromage! Sadly, this dream city is reputed for being one of the most expensive food cities. But before you seal your wallet and hopes of visiting the most romantic city in the world, read this list and taste Parisian culture without your return ticket at expense!

Gyros of Saint Michel: For 4.50 euros, you can be satisfied with a large pita stuffed with predominately chicken shawarma, cut from a rotisserie of meat at the window, with lettuce and tomato and filled-to-the-brim French fries. If you're lucky, you'll get extra "sauce blanche," or tzatziki, a creamy yogurt-based cucumber and garlic sauce.

Felafel of the Marais: A 5-euro falafel can be yours at one of many restaurants along the street, though be prepared to pay more if you plan on dining inside. Hummus generally comes pre-spread inside along with vegetables and the trademark bean patties. Spicy sauce is almost always available, whether at your table, at a buffet-style cart, or on-demand at the window.

Fresh tarts at the Franco Rose Bakery: The individual square tarts are made fresh every day, filled with mostly organic ingredients. Ricotta, tomato and thyme or artichoke and pea (5 euros to take away, 13 euros in the dining room with two salads) are among the fillings that change with the seasons. The sweet tarts are delightful as well: the lemon tart is filled with baked lemon custard topped with a layer of lemon curd (4 euros to take away, 6 euros on the spot)

Best half-dozen macarons at Pierre Hermé: 1-2 euro/s per macaron is not exactly cheap. But these sweet treats are Paris' most decadent desserts. It's not a Parisian trip if you don't try a legit macaron. And who can possibly resist a ganache-filled, almond meringue sandwich?

Street crêpes of Montparnasse: At a late night out, you might want to try these crepes at the boulevard Montparnasse! Crepes rarely exceed 6 euros and the flavors are simply scrumptious. "Chantilly Maison" and banana-Nutella are just some classic favorites. Churros and gaufres are also available.
