Trying to be stylish while traveling can be a major drag, especially on long-haul flights.  From personal experience, I can agree that we fashion-conscious traveling ladies have it hard. Sitting on a plane for a 23 hour flight in uncomfortable clothing can be hellish, but I'd rather die than wear a pair of stretch sweatpants.  Thankfully there is an in-between! Check out this ultimate guide to traveling in style and comfort.

Let's start from the bottom.  Unless you're chartering a private jet, it's a good idea to ditch the Gaga heels.  Popstar glamour is all very well until you break you ankle running for your check-in gate, or falling on top of the passenger next to you when you need the loo.  Depending on where you're going, ballet flats are always a safe choice, as well as flat gladiator sandals.  If you're going on a winter trip, then flat, fur-lined boots will always emit casual style.

If you're headed somewhere warm, then vintage-style palazzo or harem pants are a perfect choice.  If you're heading to very hot climes, you can get palazzo pants in cool materials life chiffon, which also carries the benefit of being light and easy to dry if you're packing light. I never leave Scotland without several pairs of each. I've tried traveling in jeans and I cannot stand it - they always feel tight and heavy and annoying on my waist if I'm trying to sleep on the plane.  For colder climes and boots, then Jeggings are a good alternative to jeans - no one can tell the difference, I promise you.

For tops, I like loose-fitting cotton shirts which I usually tuck into my pants.  Broderie anglaise is a favourite of mine.  For winter trips, I'll throw a sweater over a shirt and wear my coat on the plane, but stow it in the overhead, along with my case.  It's much less hassle than putting it in your case and having to stop and rifle through it in the airport.

Make-up-wise, I tend to bring only my red lipstick on the plane, with a mirror for touch-ups. I do my makeup before I get on the plane. A good tip is to bring cream versions of what you usually use, as this doesn't count towards the 100ml liquid limit.
