Labor Day 2013 is just around the corner and summer is coming to a close, so many are planning a last summer getaway before it gets colder, the days get shorter and kids start heading back to school. To help families plan their trips, Travelocity came up with a list of the most popular destinations for Labor Day Weekend and determined the average airfare and hotel prices for each city.

For labor day weekend, the average cost of a domestic round trip ticket is $335 and the average daily rates for domestic hotel stays are around $171. Domestic fares have risen slightly, by one percent since last year and hotel rates have jumped even higher by about 12 percent.

"Labor Day is the prime weekend for travelers to sneak in one last trip for the summer," says Courtney Scott, senior editor at Travelocity. "Travelers should consider the average airfares and hotel rates outlined by our data as the 'prices to beat.' If they are planning to travel and see a deal, they should not hesitate to book it; prices fluctuate frequently and are likely to increase as the holiday approaches."

Travelocity analyzed its booking data to determine the top destinations for Labor Day 2013. Many of the destination include major cultural centers like New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, as well as popular beach and family entertainment locales including Orlando and South Florida. There are some newcomers to the list including Boston and Washington, D.C. completely fell out of the top 10.

"Package deals (flight + hotel) are a great way to offset rising travel costs," says Scott. "Booking your flight and hotel together can allow travelers to save up to hundreds of dollars more than by booking separately."
