Looking for a last minute getaway for the 4th of July? There are several popular spots to celebrate the holiday and possibly catch some fireworks. To help travelers plan their last minute July 4th getaway, Travelocity released a list of top 10 most popular destinations for the holiday weekend. They also noticed the average airfare and average hotel rates.

This holiday weekend, travelers might want to hit the beautiful beaches of Florida or they may want to check out the stunning fireworks displays in New York City or Boston. Both are among the top 10 most popular destinations for July 4th.

"For travelers planning a trip for our nation's birthday, the good news is average airfare for the majority of the hotspots are below the national average making these trips a great deal," said Courtney Scott, senior editor at Travelocity. "The average cost of a domestic round-trip flight for July 4th weekend is $384, and the average daily rate for a domestic hotel is $168. Travelers should think of these prices as the 'price to beat' and keep them in mind when booking travel."

To determine the top 10 most popular destinations for Independence Day 2013, Travelocity looked at booking data. Among the choices are Boston and Washington, D.C. which have both played an important part in American History. South Florida got higher on the list from sixth to fourth this year. A new addition is Chicago, which bumped Las Vegas out of the list. Los Angeles and Orlando also made the list for their popular family entertainment experiences.
