Some of Hollywood's biggest names attended Sir Elton John's 21st Annual Academy Awards viewing party -- with the musician's two-year-old son as guest of honor.

The event has raised nearly $34 million for HIV and AIDS research over the past two decades, uk.news.yahoo.com reported.

Before the party began, John spoke about how the money has helped improve the lives of those struggling with HIV and AIDS.

"The thing is, it's a very treatable disease now," he said. "We've come so far medically that you can treat the disease and it's easier than diabetes. It's much simpler and people shouldn't have that stigma, but we need to have more compassion from people for one another. Every family must know someone who's had HIV and AIDS."

Among the other celebrities in attendance, besides John and his partner David Furnish, were singer Miley Cyrus, reality TV star Kim Kardashian, rapper Nicki Minaj and chef Gordon Ramsay.

The two-year-old Furnish-John met the A-list guests dressed in a mini-tuxedo. He even gave U2 frontman Bono a high five, The Sun reported.

But his parents insisted the toddler would not be staying out too late.

"We'll make sure they get home in time for their regular bath time, and story time with the nanny," Furnish told uk.news.yahoo.com. "Then we'll see them tomorrow morning, when we get back."

Zachary, born to a surrogate mother in Dec. 2010, also has a younger brother, Elijah, who joined the Furnish-John clan earlier this year.

Announcing the birth in Hello Magazine (according to The Sun), John said: "I've learned that a parent's capacity for love is endless. When another child is born, our depth of love just grows deeper and wider, so it was very emotional."
