A loaded gun was found in a New Jersey airport on Sunday. Transportation Security Administration screeners stopped a man at Newark Liberty International Airport after they found a loaded gun in his carry-on bag.

Robert Kellerman, 59, of Long Pond, Pa., was arrested by Port Authority police after the TSA found the loaded .22 caliber handgun in his bag as he went through the metal detector at Terminal C, the Associated Press reports.

Kellerman claims that he forgot that he had the gun in his bag. He was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.

Passengers are permitted to travel with weapons but they must be unloaded and stored properly in checked luggage.

Kellerman isn't the only person to get caught with a loaded gun at Newark Liberty airport recently. On Feb. 1 a 41-year-old Florida man was arrested after the TSA found a loaded 9 mm handgun in his bag. He also said that he forgot it was in the bag.

Last year, the TSA confiscated a record number of guns at airports across the country. The TSA confiscated about 1,550 guns last year. About 1,300 of those were loaded.

However the TSA doesn't catch every gun that goes through airports. Last year, a man was able to board a plane with his gun at a New Orleans airport. He was caught when he was going on his return flight from Newark. This occurred just one day after a woman was able to board a plane with a gun at Orlando International Airport. When she realized, she reported to incident to the police at Newark Liberty Airport.
