In Sunday night's episode rerun of "The Town" from "The Simpsons" Season 28, the crew behind the show snuck a secret Super Bowl 51 joke which you might have missed. See the easter egg below!

The episode which aired in October last year featured a caricature version of the New England Patriots incorporating Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, and Rob Gronkowski called the Boston Americans. The Americans were playing a game against Springfield's very own Atoms who were about to get the win.

However, the Americans rallied for an unlikely victory with some dubious plays. In Sunday night's rerun, instead of showing the original scoreboard which showed the Americans defeating the Atoms 23-21, it was edited to show the Patriots defeating the Falcons 34-28, the final score of Super Bowl 51.

Executive Producer Matt Selman told Entertainment Weekly that it was purely self-indulgence on their part. Selman indicates that Executive Producer Al Jean thought of the idea to add a non-sequitur freeze frame joke since the episode was set to rerun a week after Super Bowl 51. He adds that the idea made no sense in the show, but they just could not resist. The DVD/Blu-ray for "The Simpsons" Season 28 will not feature the same version, so it will likely never be aired again.

"The Simpsons" has responded to topical events through chalkboard gags, but will there be more value-added rerun gags? Selman states that they are open to the idea adding that rerun easter eggs is one way to reward the fans and keep the show fresh.

"The Town" from Season 28 of "The Simpsons" held plenty of Boston inside jokes. Watch a video review of the installment below and let us know what you think of the Super Bowl 51 easter egg in Sunday night's rerun of the episode!
