A stingray photobomb picture has hit the internet and gone viral. A group of tourists on a swim with stingrays adventure got quite the shock when one of the creatures came up behind them, resulting in a hilarious picture that is making a splash around the internet.

The funny photo was posted to Reddit on Wednesday by user epic767. Now it is spreading around the web. Thousands of people have seen and commented on the photo that shows three women standing in the water. It appears as if they were trying to pose for a pretty normal photo, but they weren't expecting to have a stingray on their backs. Their expressions on their faces show how surprised and terrified they were.

Those on Reddit believe the photo was taken at Stingray City in the Cayman Islands. The tourist attraction allows people to snorkel and swim in the stingray infested waters so they can get up close and personal with the creatures. Tourists can even feed squid to the animals.

A blurb on the Stingray City Trips website reads:

"A Stingray City snorkel trip in Grand Cayman will be the highlight of your vacation. Enjoy this unique experience of touching and feeding a Stingray, together with snorkeling amongst magnificent coral reefs and colorful tropical fish.

The Stingray City Sandbar in Grand Cayman is lots of fun and suitable for everyone of ALL ages . Standing in only three feet of water you will be surrounded by more than two dozen friendly Stingray's.

From the moment you step aboard you'll be greeted by a warm welcome from a friendly crew who will assist you in any way possible to make your Stingray City & Snorkel excursion in Grand Cayman the most exciting and fun tour of your vacation."

This particular stingray certainly seems friendly as it embraces the women and smiles as they show looks of disgust. However the stingray may have had a bit of help in pulling off the prank. Behind the stingray is the head of a man who appears to be lifting the stingray onto the backs of the women.

For those who may doubt the stingray's authenticity, Animal Planet confirms that it is real and explains "What you're seeing  in the picture is the stingray's mouth and nostrils, not the eyes, which are on the top of its body."

The photo has already inspired people to create memes. Mashable created a funny slideshow of the stingray photobombing historical moments.

Reddit commenters are also having fun responding to the photo.

"Put on sunblock, still not protected from harmful rays," jokes user EyeballKid

"Just look at his smileyface! He just felt lonely and is so happy now to have friends to take a group photo with," wrote illegalizebacon.

Stingrays typically don't jump on people, but they can be dangerous. Six years ago, Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter died when he was stabbed in the chest by a stingray's barb.
