Lil Wayne is dead. At least that's what social media sites are saying. However, Lil Wayne didn't die. He's just the latest victim of an internet death hoax.

Fans of the "6 Foot 7 Foot" rapper might be a bit alarmed as they see people take to Twitter and Facebook to mourn the death of Lil Wayne, but these messages are just rumors. The rapper is alive and well.

Several people are saying that Lil Wayne aka Dwayne Michael Carter or Weezy, has died. Some may have seen a message like this on Facebook, such as the one posted by the Facebook account King Newman Staizy.

Lil Wayne, 30, died tragically at his Louisiana home friday .september 21.
New Orleans- Fans mourn the loss of Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr., the artist better known as 'Lil Wayne,' who die today at his home in New Orleans. Lil Wayne has died from fatal injuries caused to himself after a massive overdose of the popular rage drug PCP.
Lil Wayne was pronounced dead at 11:59 pm...

In a further search, fans may have found the Necropedia entry that says "Lil Wayne, born on September 27, 1982 in New Orleans, was an American rapper. He died on September 23, 2012, at the age of 29.

The news has left the world shocked and saddened."

September 23 hasn't even happened yet and Lil Wayne definitely didn't overdose on PCP at the age of 30, as he's still 29 for at least a few more days.

Necropedia shows an "anticipated obituary," which is "an obituary written BEFORE the death of a person. It is common for news agencies to keep pre-written obituary for public figures, famous and high-profile people who are still alive."

On Saturday, when he supposedly died, Lil Wayne performed at the 2012 iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas. After his performance he met a special fan and tweeted this message early Sunday morning: "Just got off stage @ da iheart festival & da koolest thing by far was meeting a kid w cancer & his words 2me we're 'I ain't got no worries!'"

Since he was performing in Las Vegas, Lil Wayne had no time to overdose at his home in New Orleans. Clearly Weezy is doing just fine.

Yet fans continue to believe the story as it spreads and many share it with their friends. Some people took to Twitter to mourn and question the death of the rapper. Some Tweets include:

"Is it true lil wayne is dead if he is may his soul rest in peace "

"Has lil wayne died!?!? "

"RIP LIL WAYNE. Great legend. "

"Just read it n0w on news blog that Lil Wayne's dead(Dwayne Michael Carter) R.I.P"

This isn't the first time that Lil Wayne has been killed off by false reports. Rumors about his death have swirled around since 2008 and he has been killed off about 11 times now. There are several Facebook pages called "R.I.P Lil Wayne" that have been created on several occasions.

Lil Wayne isn't the only celebrity to be killed off by the internet or social media recently.

Actor Vince Vaughn, Tom Kenny, the voice behind SpongeBob Squarepants, country singer Taylor Swift, comedian Adam Sandler,  legendary actor Morgan Freeman, Comedian Bill Cosby, Alfonso Ribeiro aka Carlton from the Fresh Prince, and Bill Nye the Science Guy have all been victims of death hoaxes within the past few weeks. All of these celebrities are just fine.
