International Bacon Day or Bacon Day 2014 will be celebrated on Saturday, Aug. 30. According to multiple sources, International Bacon Day is the unofficial adherence to celebrate all things bacon and bacon-related.

Usually, International Bacon Day is held on the Saturday before US Labor Day (the first Monday of September). But according to wikia.com, some cultures do celebrate this special day the Feb. 19 or on the first Saturday in January after the New Year.

The origin of International Bacon Day may be quite confusing as there are several sources claiming to know its origin.

According to RepublicOfBacon.com, International Bacon Day was first celebrated in 2000 in Bedford, Mass. It was allegedly founded in 2000 by graduate students named Alexa Haflord, Seth Rittenhouse and Evan Salim. They apparently had had enough of bacon not being valued enough that they decided it deserved its own holiday.

They began a blog and celebrated their first bacon day cooking and eating the delicious food. Since then, International Bacon Day has spread all over the United States and even Canada.

Meanwhile, website wikia.com claims that International Bacon Day was conceived in 2004 by a group of CU Boulder (Colorado) graduate students. In Manchester UK, the special day is celebrated by several students on the 14th January prior to their January examinations. Bucknell students are also reporteldy popular for their method of celebrating, even calling themselves "Meatheads", and gorging on as much bacon during the day of celebration.

According to The Epoch Times, International Bacon Day generally include social gatherings wherein participants can create and consume dishes with bacon, including bacon-themed breakfasts, lunches, dinners, desserts and drinks. 12 News & The Arizona Republic website azcentral.com also reports that some bacon-lovers even make ice cream out of bacon. Some also make bacon chewing gum and vodka.

Celebrating International Bacon Day can also include vast amounts of social media posts about bacon.

Recently, the meat-celebrating day has been adapted by a gas-station/convenience-store chain named "QuikTrip". The store reportedly recently introduced the Bac'n Quikshake, a drink made up of 20 ounces of strips of freshly cooked bacon and maple syrup and topped with whipped cream. It's available at 3.49 at select QuikTrip locations Valley-wide, reports azcentral.com.

In Phoenix, Ariz., two eateries are also joining in on the bandwagon.

There's "Oink Cafe" in 4326 E. Cactus Road, Phoenix.

Though every day is practically Bacon Day at the Oink Cafe since they have a wide array of bacon goods, on International Bacon Day, they make available an even wider range of meaty goodness on their menu. Now on their second year celebrating Bacon Day, they will be offering special items such as bacon Rice Krispies treats, candied bacon made with brown sugar and Frank's RedHot sauce and chocolate maple bacon fudge.

Benny, bacon caramel, and the Boss Hog (specialty cocktail made with bacon-infused bourbon and house bloody Mary mix), to name a few.
