Manny Pacquiao is targeting a showdown with boxing star Danny Garcia after his bout with Chris Algieri in November, an insider close to the Filipino boxer disclosed on Friday.

Pacquiao, who will earn at least $20 million in a WBO welterweight showdown with Algieri, is already planning for his next bout in May with Garcia emerging as the top candidate for the fight-date.

The 35-year old Pacquiao recently re-signed a two-year deal with Top-Rank promotions, but the Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya is open to make a negotiation with the rival stable for a Pacman fight involving one of his fighters.

Roach, who has helped Pacquiao reach phenomenal success in the sport, believed a fight with Garcia would produce a more entertaining match than a showdown with Great Britain's Amir Khan.

"If you're going to cross over, cross over and get me something exciting. Someone who's going to make a good fight, that's what Manny wants," Pacquiao's boxing coach told The Sweet Science.

Meanwhile, Garcia is feeling confident for his welterweight debut against Rod Salka on Saturday at Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York.

Coming off a highly disputed match with Mauricio Herrera last March, the 26-year old Garcia vows to give an excellent performance in his upcoming match against a gritty veteran like Salka.

With a 142-pound catchweight clause in effect, Garcia stressed that he's more energized than ever heading into his match because he can eat whatever he likes a week before the big day.

"I feel a lot more energized. Usually, at this time, when I gotta be at 140, I feel a little bit weak from losing the weight and maintaining, skipping meals and stuff like that," Garcia told Ring TV on Tuesday.

When asked on what tactics he would use against an undersized Salka, Garcia told everybody that he's going to deliver a show whether he's the favourite or the underdog of the match.

"I always have something to prove. Either I'm fighting someone who I'm not supposed to beat and no one believes in me, or I'm fighting someone I'm supposed to beat and if they fight well I can't win anyway. To me, it doesn't matter, title fight or not, at the end of the day it's my show and I'm going to put on a great performance for the fans.

One thing is for sure, Garcis is going for a knockout win against Salka.

"I always go for the knockout. I need a knockout. I haven't had one since Morales back in Brooklyn so I'm definitely going for it," added Garcia, who hasn't knocked out an opponent since Erik Morales in 2012.
