Wyoming plant explosion caused a huge fire Thursday and forced the evacuation of a Wyoming town near the gas-processing plant. The Wyoming plant explosion had the residents of the small town in western Wyoming evacuate after hearing the explosion.

The town of Opal has an approximately 100 residents, and these more or less 100 residents became evacuees Thursday because of the Wyoming plant explosion. The evacuation was made as a precaution, according to Lincoln County, Wyoming, spokesman Stephen Malik.

He said in a statement with regard to the evacuation because of the Wyoming plant explosion, "There's still no reports of injuries. The town of Opal is evacuated as a precaution."

The blast from the Wyoming plant explosion reportedly shocked Opal and its residents at around 2:00 p.m. Mountain Time on Thursday. By the time 5:00 p.m. rolled around, Malik said the fire fighters believed they had the situation under control already.

Malik added, "The gas has been shut off, but they just want to make sure that nobody gets affected by any smoke or anything that goes toward the town" due to the Wyoming plant explosion.

According to Malik, no structures in the town were affected by the Wyoming plant explosion.  The fire was fortunately responded to and immediately confined to the facility. The facility is run by pipeline operator Williams Partners LP. The pipeline operator is based in Tulsa, Okla.

The residents of Opal have been evacuated to an area about 3 miles outside of town due to the Wyoming plant explosion. Fortunately, two evacuation centers have been set up and are available on the town's east and west sides. Similar to other small towns in the area, Opal is situated in a line along an east-west road.

Malik said that the plant which caused the Wyoming plant explosion refines petroleum into gasoline and other products and afterwards sends them to the West Coast. The Wyoming plant explosion took place in the plant's cryogenic processing tower, a structure which chills unrefined natural gas and separates impurities.

Wyoming plant explosion was responded to by a spokesman for Williams Partners LP. He said that all employees have been accounted for and that the cause of the explosion wasn't immediately known.
