For his performance in "Manchester by the Sea," Casey Affleck won the coveted Best Actor award against other four nominees. But this win was not hugely celebrated by people on the internet.

Bustle has posted that it is unfair for the Oscars to give the award to Affleck since he had sexual harassment allegations. Seven years ago, the actor was sued by "I'm Still Here" producer Amanda White for allegedly physically and verbally abusing her. The film's cinematographer Magdalena Gorka also sued him for joining her in the bed without her consent.

Because of the allegations, even though they are still unproven, some people are upset that Affleck could promote "Manchester by the Sea" and get nominated for the award, the publication read. Now, that he won the Oscar for that, the Academy should also reconsider giving the award ever since that a lot of women have already come forward with the claims of sexual harassments, they continued to explain.

They also pointed out how the competition has other worthy contenders who could have won the award. Affleck bested Denzel Washington for "Fences," Andrew Garfield for "Hacksaw Ridge," Viggo Mortensen for "Captain Fantastic," and Ryan Gosling for "La La Land."

Huffington Post reported that the sexual allegations did not stop Affleck from getting the award. Ever since the controversy and Washington's win on the Screen Actors Guild Awards, chances of Affleck winning the Oscar became slim.

"Fresh Off the Boat" star Constance Wu reiterated before that Affleck does not deserve all the recognition he has been getting. He even compared the actor's nomination to President Donald Trump's upset win at the elections.

Irish Times defended Affleck's Oscar win, emphasizing that people should focus on his performance alone and not his personal life. The publication also asked why the allegations were suddenly brought out again when in fact, Affleck has been subjected to numerous critically acclaimed films already.
