Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft's Xbox division, has just given a new update regarding Project Scorpio. The Xbox boss confirmed that he was able to test an early build of the console and experience what the gameplay is like firsthand.

"Played my first games on early Scorpio unit. Games played great, console looked right, proud of the team", said Spencer on his Twitter account. Spencer also announced that the early build of Xbox Scorpio had set a new record in terms of having games running on it. Not much is known about Project Scorpio at this time, but we shouldn't be surprise to hear about a console in its early stages being able to run games.

Spencer was then asked why he feels more enthusiastic about Scorpio than when he first announced it at last year's E3 event. Spencer responded by saying being able to see games running where he can also see their fidelity is when "it becomes real." The Scorpio console will be able to run Xbox One games.

In other Xbox Scorpio news, a report from Digital Foundry seems to suggest that ESRAM has been removed from Project Scorpio. The report was posted on video game website Eurogamer.com, and states that a lack of ESRAM is the reason why it will no longer be included in the upcoming console.

While Microsoft has described ESRAM as an essential component needed to achieve high performance on the Xbox One and Xbox One S, PC and Project Scorpio are not provided with the high powered RAM device. The Eurogamer report also revealed that Microsoft plans to support delta color compression with Scorpio. Delta color compression is the process of reducing the amount of GPU bandwidth necessary to render color pixels.

Xbox One Scorpio is scheduled for launch this holiday, but it is not yet known when Microsoft will finally reveal what the console looks like. According to Gamespot, Phil Spencer is not yet sure if Microsoft will reveal the console in this year's E3 event in June.
