Google Photos may not be appealing and popular to most travelers but it's actually a powerful tool that is giving iCloud, Dropbox, and OneDrive a stiff competition. With some beyond the basic tricks, it can be your perfect travel companion.

When traveling, internet connection is quite expensive. Here's where Google Photos come into the picture! You can still use the app even if you are not connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile network. Just enable "Backup and sync" feature and all the photos and videos you take while offline will automatically get backed up once you connect to the internet.

You have the option to change backup and sync settings depending on which Google account you want to use to hold those valuables photos and videos. There is two storage size that you can choose from - the "high quality" which is best for people who doesn't care much about the quality of photos and "original" which is recommended for travelers who want to keep the original quality of the photos using DSLR camera. It is limited to 15GB free storage, though.

If you don't want to incur extra cost on cellular data, your best option is to back up photos on Wi-Fi only and choose "backup all" if you want to include the video clips too. To conserve your battery life, set your back up into "while charging only".

Accidentally deleting a photo is not a big deal anymore. You can undelete it with Google Photos. It will hold those images for at least 60 days in the trash and if you have a sudden change of mind or accidentally deleted them, just navigate to trash folder, touch the photos you want to undelete and tap restore.

Another amazing trick that Google Photos do is it lets you edit the photos on-the-go. If "backup and sync" is enabled on your device, all the edited images will sync into the library. It has the filter and crop feature and you can also adjust the color, exposure and add effects. You can also compare the original and edited image while editing. Both the original and edited photos will be saved in the Google Photos library and you have to option to delete the edited version if you are unsatisfied with the output. The original will still be there and you can start to edit again.

With Google Photos free unlimited storage, you don't have to worry about running out of storage while traveling. And there's no reason for you to back up those precious images from a memorable trip. Don't stop exploring. You'll be amazed at how much features Google Photos have to offer.
