George Michael, British singer and songwriter who found fame in the 80's was believed to have died of heart failure in his home in Goring, England, over the holidays. His death is sudden but not suspicious according to police. Let's honor George Michael by looking back at his career and noting some of his musical bests.

Along with Andrew Ridgeley, George Michael gained fame as a member of the musical duo, "Wham!". "Wham!" was a huge hit in the 80s and 90s and was best known for their post-disco and dance-pop style of music. Their most popular songs include "Last Christmas" and "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go".

"Last Christmas" is still popular today and a lot of stars have done covers of the song, including Ariana Grande, Ashley Tisdale and Carly Rae Jepsen. The holiday season will not be complete without this song playing in the background, and although it was made famous in the 80s it's one song even kids today know of, thanks to recent artists who have covered this song.

He later decided to go on his own and released a solo album in 1987 which he titled, Faith. It sold more than 20 million copies all over the world, and his songs from the album, "Careless Whisper" and "Freedom! '90" rose to the Billboard charts as mentioned by Rolling Stone. He is among the ranks of best-selling British acts of all time and Billboard Magazine has ranked him as the 40th most successful artist to ever live.

Over the period of his 30 year career, he has won 3 Brit Awards, he won Best British Male twice, he got 4 MTV VMAs, 4 Ivor Novello Awards, 2 Grammy Awards with 8 Grammy nominations and 3 AMAs. In 2004, he was named the most played artist on British radio during the 1994-2004 period, by Radio Academy. If his awards aren't enough to give him credit for his contributions to the music industry, perhaps the million of his fans all over the world will.

A documentary story entitled, A Different Story that covered his career as well as his personal life was released in 2005, a second documentary of his life entitled, Freedom is set to be released in March of 2017, unfortunately, he passed away on Christmas, December 25, 2016 due to a heart failure as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
