Tiger Woods officially announced on Tuesday his commitment to the 2017 Genesis Open at Riviera. The tournament will be held on February 16 to 19 in Los Angeles, and Woods is making his first appearance since he withdrew all the way back in 2006. It is also the same tournament Woods has played the most without a win and the site of his first PGA Tour event in 1992 as an amateur. During that time, he missed the cut and shot 72-75.

According to USA Today, Woods made his comeback to competitive golf earlier this month at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, where he finished 15th out of 17 golfers, but showcased flashes of his old self. He shot 65 in the second round of the tournament that benefits his foundation. In addition, it was the first tournament he played in about 16 months after undergoing two back surgeries. In the Bahamas, Woods played 72 holes of competitive golf without any back issues and he unleashed max swing efforts at times. He was able to shot 76 in the final round and finished 4-under.

"I'm very excited to come back to Riviera," said Woods. "To come back to the Genesis Open. This is where it all started for me. It was a life-changing moment for me. To come back with my foundation ... we are so proud and so honored to be back. For me, to come back as a player ... I've always loved playing there. The golf course is one of the most historic and iconic in the world."

CBS Sports says that this is great news for gold fans as wells as the PGA Tour. Next year will be interesting since old timers like Woods and Phil Mickelson will be joining Jordan Spieth, Rory Mcllory and Dustin Johnson, who are all at the peak of their prowess. Meanwhile, Woods has not announced his full schedule for 2017.
