Don't all of us what a bang for the bucks? Especially when we often travel, we want our every penny's worth. Well don't fret, here's a handful of advice on how to get the most for your dollar when booking for a hotel. These valuable tips are based on a study by Expedia. Checking it out won't cost you much and following it will pay back bigtime.

Book on a Sunday - a review of Expedia's previous year booking across its sites, reveal Sundays were the best day to book overall-especially for same-day bookings. Though results change depending on the days between the booking day and date of stay.

Make reservations 21-28 days before your travel dates - this will give you the lowest average daily rates - the farther from your set day the bigger your discounts can be.

Choose November and January - months with the lowest daily average rates. Avoid (if you can) July, August and March; these are the months with the highest daily average rates.

Book on a neighboring area - the study of Expedia cites this example: New York City's cheaper spots include the Financial District or Queens; for London, your money-savings destination would be Tower Hill, Shoreditch, Hoxton, Liverpool St., Canary Wharf and Dalston.

Expedia enumerates further famous destinations and the alternate neighborhoods to look for cheaper rates in popular destinations around the world:

  •  In Berlin, Germany: Adlershof
  •  In Singapore: Arab Street, East Coast
  •  In New Orleans, Louisiana: Garden District
  •  In Miami, Florida: Fort Lauderdale
  •  In San Francisco, California: Oakland, Napa, or Sonoma
  •  In Seattle, Washington: Tacoma
  •  In Barcelona, Spain: Sant Martí
  •  In Paris, France: La Défense
  •  In Venice, Italy: Mestre
  •  In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: Penang, Cenang Beach, Langkawi
  •  In Sydney, Australia: Chippendale, Manly

Consider three star hotels - the most popular hotels on Expedia's sites are those with three star. You can check out the actual study of Expedia and download a pdf file by clicking here.
