Gwyneth Paltrow, the Academy Award winning actress turned lifestyle guru had a surprise launch of her brand Goop's first fragrance, simply called Edition 01 Winter. In the promo junket of her debut fragrance, Paltrow was asked by Vanity Fair, "What is more grueling, forging a career in Hollywood or an online business in the tech world.?" "Definitely the latter," she answered without hesitation. "The acting part of my life was ridiculously charmed, and I feel like I had very little adversity and obstacles doing it. But, knowing my weird personality, I knew I wanted to eventually pivot and do something that was inherently more challenging," she added.

She describes her role in Goop as creatively demanding but "ultimately more fulfilling." Paltrow also told the magazine that you need to be a real person when you are in a business and "people don't just blow smoke up your a-- all day." She refers it to her first career as a Hollywood actress.

For Edition 01 Winter, the fragrance's top note is an "earthy, barky smell." Organic ingredients are the core of the scent that also apply to the entire Goop concept, according to Paltrow. Earlier this year, Goop launched beauty and wellness collections. Prior to the that, she conducted a research and discovered that 'fragrance' as an ingredient covers up a long list of chemicals. Paltrow stated that no one in the government or industry said something. She also mentioned that chemicals listed as fragrances are known disrupters and can affect our endocrine system that produces hormones which "are an incredible part of our developmental journey." Her fragrance is entirely natural and its base is sugar cane alcohol.

On November 15, Edition 01 Winter will be available exclusively on the Goop website. The second version of the scent is named Edition 02 Spring will be launched for the next season, and so on. To take a sneak peek of the brand's new fragrance, please click here.

Paltrow's first fragrance launch was a surprise. The junket was in a spa in downtown New York, where she had one-on-one meetings with beauty editors. "We have a lot of things in the works, and we try and launch different things in different ways. We like a surprise here and there, and I love the idea of people discovering it as opposed to being hit over the head with it," the Goop founder told Vanity Fair. She was asked if she got that tip from Beyonce', who loves to drop songs and videos unexpectedly. "I think it's a stretch to compare this with a Beyonce album," she answered.
