New Zealand may not be at the top of the travel bucket list of most people, but that doesn't stop this paradise from the South in bringing home prestigious citations from the tourism industry.

Some of New Zealand's most luxurious stays have received accolades at the Luxury Hotel Awards this weekend.

According to nzherald.co.nz, in Auckland, Sky City Grand received a regional award in the luxury contemporary hotel category.

One of the highly recognized hotel is The Residence, which belongs to the George Hotel in Christchurch, and was named the top luxury hotel villa in Australasia at the awards ceremony in Qatar on Saturday.

The Heritage Christchurch also received a regional award in the luxury historical hotel category.

Queenstown was also featured heavily, with three hotels in the area receiving regional awards.

Eichardt's Private Hotel was also named New Zealand's best luxury suite, while its sister hotel The Spire was named New Zealand's best luxury romantic hotel.

Huka Lodge - was hailed as the runner up for Best Hotel in Australasia & the South Pacific according to Condé Nast Traveller (UK) Magazine Readers' Travel Awards 2015. Three other New Zealand luxury lodges featured in the list. Otahuna Lodge - number three Best Hotel in Australasia & the South Pacific, Blanket Bay - number 14 Best Hotel in Australasia & the South Pacific, Eagles Nest -  number 18 Best Hotel in Australasia & the South Pacific, Annandale - Australasia's and the World's Leading Experiential Luxury Property, all according to World Travel Awards 2015
