The X-Men will face a formidable villain whose name spells the end of the world for both mutants and humans in the official trailer of X-men: Apocalypse released last December 10.

The trailer introduces a coming of a god, supposedly the world's first mutant and will be the greatest foe the X-Men would have encountered -- Apocalypse, played by Oscar Isaac who is unrecognizable in the costume. True to his name, the titular villain intends to wipe out all form of civilization with the hopes of creating a new and better world where only the strong survives and the weak perish.

Included in the video are the infamous Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, powerful henchmen who do his bidding, and are confirmed to be Angel (or presumably Archangel because of those metal wings) played by Ben Hardy, Psylocke played by Olivia Munn, Storm played by Alexandra Shipp, and the friend-turned-foe Magneto played by Michael Fassbender. This is the first appearance for Psylocke, Storm, and Angel while Magneto was present in the 2 previous films as a crucial character both as friend and foe to Charles Xavier, founder and leader of the X-Men.

There are also familiar characters from other previous X-Men films who recently joined the group in order to stop the apocalyptic threat. They are Cyclops played by Tye Sheridan, Jean Grey played by Sophie Turner, and Nightcrawler played by Kodi Smit-McPhee.

True to the title as well, the movie will be shown in theatres this May 27, 2016 and aims to bring an end to the franchise arc and hopefully open a new one.

This week has been filled with previews of big movies slated to be released next year such as 'The Legend of Tarzan', sequels 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Out of the Shadows', and 'Independence Day: Resurgence'. In line with that, this week marks the release of the pop culture phenomenon 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'
