Nobel Prize winner for DNA discovery is selling his medal years after making a breakthrough in Science.

Biologist James Watson rose to prominence after his biggest discovery in the world of science alongside fellow scientists and awardee, Francis Crick and Maurice Wilkins. The group of scientists is famously known for their great work involving the discovery of the structure of the Deoxyribonucleic acid which stores the genetic information of all the living organisms in the planet way back in 1953. Its discovery has been a major leap in the world of science and has greatly contributed to the modern works of men.

Despite of all the achievements that Watson had after his discovery with the DNA structure, the awardee recently announced that he is actually selling his Nobel Prize medal which he won along with his colleagues in 1962. The said recognition is one of the world's most prestigious award-giving bodies that are given to qualified recipients who have made a mark in the fields of cultural and scientific advancements.

According to the latest news, the well-known biologist has decided to sell his medal because of his need for money after being considered as an outcast when he made his alleged racist remarks in 2007. In the said year, the now, 86 year-old DNA helix-structure discoverer previously sparked a huge controversy when he said that people from African descent are less intelligent compared to the white people. Since then, the Nobel Prize awardee was ousted from board companies and did not made any public lectures.

The said medal will be auctioned in New York on Thursday and is expected to be fetched as much as $2.5 million despite of the owner's controversy. If the Nobel Prize medal will be sold, the DNA structure scientist discoverer said that he will buy a piece of art made by David Hockney and will donate to some institutions.
